Top notch, top notch. A hilarious, deadon seasons 1-3 recap ahead of the much awaited season 4 premiere— including such gems as…

“From fiction’s most notorious serial killer, comes the TV adaptation of the Medieval encyclopedia/dungeonmasters guide/porn that is Game of Thrones” … “Travel to Westeros, a place where everything is the [thing] of [nouns]” … “Watch as these heroes struggle to end the rein of King Justin Bieber”… Seriously guys, get on that. 'Zombie Studies Gain Ground on College Campuses'

'Kyle Bishop figured it was risky when he applied to a University of Arizona Ph.D. program in English eight years ago by proposing a dissertation on zombie movies. He was dead wrong.'

Yes— this is an actual Wall Street Journal article, with so many spectacular undead cliches. Yet, still sad I didn’t get to spend thousands on this…

What if William Shakespeare wrote Star Wars? An exclusive look at 'The Empire Striketh Back'

Act V, Scene 3

Enter CHORUS.

CHORUS O might duel, O action ne’er surpass’d:

The lightsabers do clash and glow like fire.

Darth Vader in the villain’s role is cast,

While Luke’s younger temper turneth soon to ire.

They flash and fly like dancers in a set,

Yet never dance did now such deadly mood.

Luke tires, and soon his brow begins to sweat,

Whilst Vader doth attack with strength renew’d.

I’ve been to far more of these than should be acceptable. Now they just need to include Brooklyn and WiFi access.

Fred Armisen parodied This American Life’s Ira Glass on SNL, and it’s amazing

Just listened to This American Life’s recent ‘Doppelgängers’ podcast co-hosted by Fred Armisen (in the full on character of Ira Glass). I highly recommend a listen— as always— an odd, unsettling mix of dead-on parody, an eclectic story about disturbing pig parts used for faux calamari, and a heartbreaking comparison of recollections of life in Afghanistan and gangs in Philly.

And here’s a throw back to Jon Stewart/John Oliver’s absolutely fantastic satire of NPR broadcasting— and another one here.

Winterpocalypse continues… “There’s a ‘polar vortex’ sweeping across America”

It’s actually a wee bit chilly out… “At the height of the cold, wind chills may reach 50, 60 or even 70 below zero.” To put it lightly, “for the first time in 17 years, Minnesota called off school Monday for the entire state,” and “The National Weather Service has described the wind chill as ‘life-threatening.’”

Made my own Star Wars snowflakes with paper, scissors, and the Force.
…This is how you close out a Jets season in a freezing, sleeting/snowing Northeast. I drew my own, but for your own Nerdist holidays find and print out years of Anthony Herrara’s snowflake patterns here. (via @Wired and @allgoode21)

…If Dan Soder hadn’t lost a football game 116-0 as a child, he might be a different person today.

Apparently I was on Comedy Central for a millisecond, but, if you were raised a Jets fan or lived in Apartment #27 you probably understand why I’m laughing.

Fantastic analysis of the Decline of the American empire from John Oliver.

Some highlights…

  • 'For America, let's admit it, the numbers don't look good…but you know what, those are just facts. And at its best America has never been about facts. It's been about belief. It's about looking at a fact and saying— no. No, no. I don't think so.'
  • 'Do you honestly think any other country could put a man to the moon? Of course not. That is a stupid thing to do. Only America could pull that off. It makes complete sense— if you don't really think about it.'

Every Doctor Who death retold by the “Gallifreycrumb Tinies”

Doctor Who reimagined— amazing. Find the full A-Z here.

I just watched 'Yesterday,' and you should too.
For anyone who is living with HIV/AIDS or has worked with OVCs, this movie perhaps rings too true— A moving story that follows a South African mother whose last wish is to make sure her daughter receives an education. And to break the stereotypes, also watch my favorite UNAIDS/WHO epidemiologist Elisabeth Pisani’s TEDx on the science of rational irrationality and HIV and read ‘Sizwe’s Test,’ a young man’s journey through stigma, fear, culture, and diagnosis in South Africa.

The UN adopts official guidelines for protecting Earth from asteroids

This may seem absurd considering many of the outstanding challenges facing the UN— from food insecurity to Security Council reform— but in light of astronomers discovering a massive asteroid that could hit Earth in 2032 this might actually be pragmatic planning.
